Part 1: The Career Review

This first step is the foundation on which we formulate and execute your career strategy.

It will help you and your career advisor to have a clear understanding of who you are, and where you really want your career to go, so it’s important to get it right.

*A Career Review is an audit of your career, looking at where you have been, where you are now and where you’d like to be in the future. *

Career reviews can help to:

  • Identify relevant opportunities for growth
  • Determine if a change might be the right thing for you
  • Refocus and redefine your purpose (in other words, find your ‘why’)
  • Identify strengths and weaknesses
  • Adapt to changes outside of your control
  • Plan for retirement

TIP!

It’s good practice to conduct a Career Review at least once every year, to keep up with changes in the industry or personal circumstance.

Part 2: Training Needs Analysis

After conducting a Career Review, you and your career advisor should have a clear understanding of where you are now and where you’d like to be.

The next step is to analyse your training needs, by comparing the knowledge, skills or experience you currently have against that which you need in order to achieve your career goals.

The gap between your current training level and the level required for your desired role is where you will need to focus your efforts for training*.

*‘Training’ is used broadly to include work experience, knowledge, formal qualifications, certifications and skills.

A training needs analysis helps you to focus your resources on training that will enable you to achieve your career goals faster.
